JEFF APPROVED!
Jeff’s final score for The Great Outdoors — one man, one couch, one honest number.

This comedy follows a family vacation to a cabin turning into the ultimate game of one upmanship when the family's distant relatives arrive unannounced and attempt to win over the respect of the patriarch's children.
Content noteComedy: not recommended for young children, mature themes, mild coarse language throughout, sexual content including dialogue, brief nudity, scenes which depict minor sexual harassment among teenagers.
Jeff’s take
Though he was relevant before my time, I previously saw John Candy for the first time in the movie “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.” In that movie, he served as the annoying but lovable antagonist. His knack for being annoying in that movie was what drew me towards him as one of my favorite actors. I could tell that he had a soft spot as he seemed to long for approval and basically wanted to belong.
I think in this movie, he got a taste of what it's sort of like to be annoyed by someone who won't leave you alone when you want to be. Despite this, I've seen him on both sides of the equation at this point. He's been the guy that everybody hates but can't help but love and the guy that loves everybody but can't help but feel annoyed by the presence and antics of another person.
To be honest, I was drawn to this movie just by the fact that he was in it. I would definitely recommend this movie because I feel like everybody should admire the acting of John Candy.
I will definitely recommend this movie!
