Plot summary

This comedy follows a father who must contend with numerous dilemmas as he tries to plan his daughter’s wedding within a week, only to face numerous setbacks, including being forced to share his household with nearly the entire wedding party after the local hotel experiences a leak in the roof, which leads to chaos within the family.

Jeff’s take

I was expecting a lot more from this movie, if I’m being completely honest. For what it’s worth, it wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really have the feel of a movie that starred Adam Sandler, and I also felt like the story kept changing at numerous points. At first it was issues with relationships, and then it became more about other things, and it just lacked a true comedic aspect. It was more about Adam Sandler trying to meet a deadline while contending with his own stress.

To me, this movie does not resemble the types of movies I’m used to seeing Adam Sandler in. Though this appears to be a comedy movie, I would not really recommend it to anyone who is a fan of that genre, and this to me is something that I never thought I would say as it relates to an Adam Sandler movie.

Jefferson Bert’s personal author message

I have to say that I’m very surprised at how this movie turned out. However, I was not surprised in a good way. I generally enjoy most movies that Adam Sandler is in, but this one was totally different.

The first problem with this movie was that it bothered me on a personal level. I find large crowds and big gatherings stressful, especially when lots of people are staying in one place. The growing number of people in the movie brought that tension to the forefront for me and affected how I experienced it. Watching Adam Sandler’s character become more stressed also made me think about how demanding family responsibilities can be.

The biggest problem throughout this movie was its main premise. I did not agree with what the occasion was. I don’t connect with the idea of getting married or with major long-term changes, and this made the central premise difficult for me. I felt that things that start one way should always be that way, no matter what. I know a lot of people may disagree with me, but this is how I feel.

At numerous points during this film, I felt like I could predict the ending. I thought for sure that the wedding would have been called off given how much was being dealt with along with Adam Sandler’s stress, etc. That is not what happens, which is why I chose to include it in my review. However, in my personal opinion, it might have made the movie better than how it turned out.

Even though I really should fail this movie, I am a huge Adam Sandler fan, and being that this is the very first movie I’m writing about in a week that is dedicated to specific actors, I will not fail this movie completely. I will say, though, that it definitely did not fit the mold of what an Adam Sandler movie should be. The rating boost I’m going to give this movie is solely out of respect for Adam Sandler and not this movie itself. I hope the rest of this week is better in terms of movies starring Adam Sandler.
